MAXFIELD BLEU IN THE RED

Maxfield Bleu has been an L.A. retail institution – first on Santa Monica Blvd. and Doheny for years, then on Robertson. It’s the on-salewing of Maxfield’s on Melrose, getting the last season’s Commes des Garcons, Rick Owens, Yohji, Stella McCartney, Maxfield’s stocks the resale store with all kinds of goodies, and while they’re still relatively expensive – they are perennial, designer items that will always turn heads. I was walking around in Bon Saturday and whoa nelly! – where Somper Furs on Canon Drive used to be, just north of Wilshire (301 N Canon) is now the new Maxfield Bleu. It’s a lttle strange to have such an avant garde store in Beverly Hills – but a welcome addition to the neighborhood. And best of all – those IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND Rick Owens wedge ankle boots, which are at least $800.00 at Browns in London (the only place to find them) are HALF OFF RIGHT NOW. MB doesn’t have a TON of sizes – but they do have both black and grey suede, so head over there right now. Now James Perse has a store a few blocks up from his father Tommy Perse’s store.
MAXFIELDS IN MALIBU???

John Varvatos just opened there. Missoni is about to open there. Retailers from all over the world have gotten really smart about the fact that residents of Malibu probably have lots of money – whether they spend weekends or all week there – they SPEND. So instead of waiting for them to come to stores, they are bringing the stores to THEM. Now, Tommy Perse of Maxfield’s on Melrose, one of L.A.’s greatest stores, is opening in Malibu in the next few months. Now, do people wear Yohji and Commes des Garcons in Malibu??? We thought they just wore Juicy Couture Well, we bet they start pairing their Juicy with cashmere sweaters and Yohji or Rick Owens jackets. Heck, there isn’t much to do in The Bu in the winter – but now residents can add SUPER SHOPPING to the list. Sure, Theodore and Planet Blue carry some good chic brands (Marni, Anna Sui, Ann Demuelemeister, Gaultier), but nobody does like Maxfield’s. Get ready for a black out on Malibu Beach!! And get ready to see Victoria Beckham in The Bu – whether it’s Malibu, or Nobu Mailbu.
