There are lots of vintage etail sites that advertise that you can get all the trends from them – and then you see what they have and it’s not even just a pale imitation – it’s junk! But in this case, these looks from unique-vintage.com actually DO look like their Emmy originals and they are very well priced. What the sizing will be like, we can’t tell you. But if you’re going to a wedding or a Bas Mitzvah soon, these dresses are pretty good, and all under $200 bucks.

For instance, Lea Michelle’s navy Oscar de la Renta gown probably costs in the neighborhood of ten thousand dollars – and that’s conservative. But this navy taffeta ruched beaded gown goes for $128.

Tina Fey’s black and nude print Oscar de la Renta is a very detailed and fitted gown, in this vintage style, is $128!!!

And a white chiffon Grecian gown a la Kim Kardashian’s Marchesa is $118. This is a pretty good facsimilie at five grand less than the original!!

Not every Emmy nominee, presenter or attendee is in line to get the best gowns and cocktail dresses from designers Europe and New York. In fact, it’s a tough time of year to get gowns: the spring 2011 ones have not been shown yet, a lot of the fall 2010 gowns have already been worn by celebs – and there really isn’t enough pre-spring/resort to go around for the entire Television Academy. And couture? That was shown in Europe in July – but not that many television actresses – outside of Sarah Jessica Parker – can score couture. If someone does wear couture or Armani Prive’, we’ll know they have clout in Europe. By all accounts, the actress with the biggest reach to designers is January Jones. She’s beautiful, thin and on a very hot show. If Blake Lively and Leighton Meester attend (they aren’t on the presenters list right now), they would also be able to score Chanel or Dior or Versace. After that group, it comes down to Tina Fey, Lea Michelle from “Glee,” Diana Argon from “Glee” – the most attractive women on the hottest shows. “Mad Men’s” Christina Hendricks falls in there, too. Not far behind are Eva Longoria Parker and Sofia Vergara – just because they make the clothes look good, and have good connections in the fashion community. We hear January and Tina already have their gowns made, and aren’t going to change their minds. Lucky designers who made clothes for them.

For those of you who were NOT up at 5:30 am Los Angeles Time – as many reporters were – the Emmy Nominations were announced then, by Joel McHale and Sofia Vergara (who got a supporting nom for her show “Modern Family”). The Emmy’s will play live on both coasts on August 29th, 2010, on NBC, hosted by Jimmy Fallon.

Here’s a list of the lead actresses in comedy, drama and mini-series, that designers will want to be sending sketches, lookbooks and videos to TODAY:

Best Actress in a TV Comedy Series:

  • Lea Michelle, Glee
  • Julia Louis Dreyfuss, The New Adventures of Old Christine
  • Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
  • Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreations
  • Tina Fey, 30 Rock
  • Toni Colette, The United States of Tara

(What’s interesting here is that ex-SNL buddies Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are competing in the same category. Our money is on Lea Michelle to be most glamourous on the red carpet.)

Best Actress in a TV Drama:

  • Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer
  • Glenn Close, Damages
  • Connie Brixton, Friday Night Lights
  • Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
  • Mariska Hargitay, Law and Order SVU
  • January Jones, Mad Men

(Of course, January Jones will be the most gorgeously dressed in this category – and “Mad Men” comes back July 25th, and we are counting the days.)

Best Actress in a TV Mini Series or Movie:

  • Maggie Smith
  • Joan Allen
  • Dame Judi Dench
  • Hope Davis
  • Claire Danes

(Of course, Claire Danes – recently seen at Paris couture – should come home with an amazing dress to wear to the Emmy’s on Aug 29.

Anyone on Twitter the last day, following ANYONE in the fashion business, has been inundated with the fashions from NY’s Met Ball at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute. But we want to analyze them a bit, not just throw them in your face or splash them across the internet. For instance, the ladies who wore YSL. Stefano Pilati, the brand’s designer attended from Paris – and we understand he tossed one of his best friends, an LA stylist, out of the table at the last minute, to make room for Kathryn Bigelow, who wore a lovely simple grey YSL to the Oscars. Now that she’s MUCH more famous – the only woman to win a Best Director Oscar in history – she seems to be making braver fashion choices, and sticking with her pals at YSL. But we think it didn’t really work. Pink is NOT her color – she’s not a girly girl – and all that beading and embroidery makes her appear larger than she is. We were loving her awards season anti-fashion simple chic, and think she should quickly return to it.
However, Tina Fey looks AMAZING in this YSL strapless satin zippered jumpsuit. She looks daringly smokingly sexy, almost better than ever. And it proves she looks terrific in clothes that are close to the body, instead of all of those poufy things she’s been test-driving. January Jones is one actress who’s incapable of looking bad. Here, with Stefano Pilati, she can pull off the day-length or cocktail length fuschia satin dress with black scrolling. She looks amazing. But we’re not sure about the “Bladerunner” eye makeup, though!

Okay, this should NOT happen. Both Tina Fey and Sheryl Crow showed up the Matrix Awards in NY – awards for women in media – in almost exactly the SAME Dolce & Gabbana dress! Tina’s version had a v neck and Sheryl’s had a more elaborate printed top – but both were sheaths in white with blue and red floral print on them. EMBARRASSING! Although it could have been worse – they could have both looked bad, and they both looked quite good in the dress (that’s Mariska Hargitay in between them.) And Dolce & Gabbana was NOT upset – they sent out a press release and a photo! We got to wondering: how on EARTH could this have happened? A Dolce pr person would never let this happen, they’d get fired. So we’re going to assume both these ladies, hardly broke, fyi, BOUGHT these dresses from stores, since they are from spring 2010, and didn’t borrow them!!! This is why actresses should ALWAYS wear next season, so this doesn’t happen. But actually, it’s pretty amusing, and we applaud them BOTH for buying their own clothes, and making a good choice!

Tina Fey, as we all know, is almost as much America’s sweetheart, as Sandra Bullock – with a little bit more down to earth no-fuss no-muss attitude. She’s got her new movie with Steve Carrell opening this weekend, “Date Night” – and on the movie’s one sheet, or poster, they both look like they’ve been through a minefield – or a heavy makeout session – or more! (We’ll soon see.) But in real life, Tina’s been glamming it up at the Golden Globes, The SAG Awards, the Oscars – in Zac Posen and incredible gowns. Even on the cover of Vogue. But somehow, that glammed up girl NEVER really looks like HER. We like her look here – at the Berlin premier for “Date Night” with Carrell, she’s wearing skinny jeans, a sailor top and a blazer – and her hair and makeup are really pretty, a little more pronounced than the way she looks on “30 Rock” as Liz Lemon. This is as glam as we want to see Tina get – she looks authentic, pulled together, chic – and very very real. Some ladies just aren’t gown girls – and that’s a good thing. Real world glamour is a form of glamour, too. – Merle Ginsberg

There was a disparity in thinking this week that the Oscar presenters might be kept secret till Sunday night – but the truth is, the Academy website has mentioned some presenters on their website – but not all. We know of two women whose names have NOT been announced. But meanwhile, these names have: Queen Latifah, Tina Fey, Miley Cyrus, Kristen Stewart, Barbra Streisand are the women we know of; and the men are: Robert Downey Jr., Zac Efron, Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Bateman, Ben Still, Ryan Reynolds, Sam Worthington, Keanu Reeves, Steve Carrell – with Sasha Baran Cohen cancelling on a skit he was meant to do with Robert Downey Jr. about James Cameron. Somebody thought better of James Cameron’s temper, and Baran Cohen is out. Meanwhile, the biggest fashion presence of the night will no doubt be TOM FORD, who directed “A Single Man,” and helped earn Colin Firth an Oscar nomination. Who could outglam Tom Ford? He’ll be the best looking, best dressed, most exciting presence at the Oscars! And Tina Fey and Oprah will be the most powerful – isn’t that irony??

It’s a big deal to make the cover of Vogue – it’s that “you know you’ve made it, even in the fashion world” moment. EVEN for TIna Fey, whose done the cover of Vanity Fair and other mags. But Vogue is the big mama of female prowess and achievement in America – and March Vogue makes it a bigger deal. September and March are the two biggest selling issues of the year, with the most amount of clothes and ads and readers. March is literally “the power issue.” In a candid conversation with journalist Jonathan Van Meter, Fey describes herself as a celebrity flying the flag for “normal.” However, as Anna Wintour notes in her editor’s letter, “there is nothing ordinary about her brilliance, her perceptiveness, or her beauty. Mario Testino and Tonne Goodman’s portfolio of the star captures a woman who fully understands the power of style to elevate the everyday.”

Highlights from the Article

Going Rogue: Ever since her devastatingly funny Sarah Palin impressions, she has for the first time in her life attracted unwanted attention—and hate mail. “People started projecting politics onto me,” she says. “There are people who hate me now because of that.”

Normal Girls: “I feel like I represent normalcy in some way. What are your choices today in entertainment? People either represent youth, power, or sexuality. And then there’s me, carrying normalcy.” Pause. “Me and Rachel Ray.”

The Skinny: “People will say, ‘Oh, fashion magazines are so bad, they’re giving girls a negative message’—but we’re also the fattest country in the world, so it’s not like we’re all looking at fashion magazines and not eating. Maybe it just starts a shame cycle: I’m never going to look like that model, so… Chicken McNuggets it is! And conversely, I don’t look at models who are crazy skinny and think I want to look like that, because a lot of them are gigantic, with giant hands and giant feet.”

The Power of Clothes: “I think women dress for other women to let them know what their deal is. Because if women were only dressing for men, there would be nothing but Victoria’s Secret. There would be no Dior.”

Hand-Me-Downs: When she was in grade school, a cousin gave her some hand-me-downs that included a “colonial-lady” Halloween costume. “It consisted of a bonnet,” says Fey, “and a burlap apron and a long skirt. And I would just wear it sometimes after school. As an outfit… It was the Bicentennial! People were excited!”

The VOGUE Cover: “I was posing for [Mario Testino] and he was talking from behind the camera and he was like, ‘You have to fliiiirt, darleeeng. You have to bee-leeve you are wuuuurthy to on the cover’ And then at one point he said very quietly, ‘Lift your chin, darling. You are not eighteen.’ And I was like, ‘You probably say that to all the 23-year olds.’”

We have to say, even before we knew that Tina Fey’s interesting black and green and grey striped tea-length full skirted dress was by Zac Posen, we thought Ms. Tina was the most improved fashion presence at the Golden Globes this year. For one thing, she wasn’t wearing her perennial dour black dress. She had red lipstick on. She showed her nice shoulders. She looked very girlish and much more comfortable than she usually does on the red carpet. Funny, then, that it was the first year she didn’t win the Globe for best actress in a tv comedy in a few years. And she even said that on the red carpet on Sunday night. “I think our winning streak is over,” she told us – she’s rarely wrong. But let’s see what happens at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards this Saturday night. Jessica Lange was also wearing a Zac Posen gown, although she didn’t fare quite as well, in our opinion. The second most improved fashion presence at the Golden Globes was Meryl Streep. We’re not quite sure what that simple off the shoulder black dress was, but it fit her well, flattered her shoulders, and she looks amazing in red lipstick – like ten years younger. Wow. She actually made an effort. She clearly had an idea she might win.
