You know we’re in high Oscar season when the invites to see shoes, jewelry, even beauty products start rolling in. Starworks is holding a salon for Stuart Weitzman’s “Red Carpet Collection” next week, between March 4 and March 6. Instead of being in their Rodeo Drive store, they’re holding it at the London Hotel (1020 N. San Vicente Blvd off Sunset), and you have to make an appointment by writing to RSVPSW@starworksny.com. They will actually have some extras at this suite: makeup by Carol Shaw’s team for LORAC Cosmetics, and hair by George from Andy LeCompte, using Joico Products. As you might have guessed, LORAC and Joico are sponsoring the suite. How many stars with wear Stuart Weitzman shoes to the Oscars? We’re expecting a lot of Jimmy Choos, Roger Vivier and other major names – but branding is branding, and that’s what the Oscar week in L.A. is all about. – Merle Ginsberg

Stuart Weitzman Cupcakes

Starting this Thursday May 7, and going through to Saturday May 9, Stuart Weitzman Beverly Hills at 437 N. Rodeo (www.stuartweitzman.com) will host its fall 2009 trunk show of shoes and handbags. Weitzman has stylish looks and a better price point than we’re used to at the big Rodeo Drive and Wilshire stores – and – they will be serving the brand new Sprinkles “Stiletto” cupcake – topped with a sexy sugary red heel – as in our photo here.

With that sugar rush going, you’ll want to pre-order some fall shoes, and if you’re hard to fit at all – slim feet, wide toes, long feet, baby feet, they can help with that tall order – they have 12AAA, size 5, and even 12C. Sure, you’re really gearing up for the big spring sales on shoes – but it wouldn’t hurt to have a cupcake and check out fall. And if you gain a pound, it won’t affect your shoe size!

You gotta hand it to Angelina Jolie: she is rich enough, beautiful enough, and famous enough to wear the greatest labels in the world: Lanvin, Givenchy, Balenciaga, YSL, Gianfranco Ferre, Balmain, Chanel. And yet, she wears affordable clothing that anyone could buy. And she makes it look MUCH more amazing than it is. Case in point: the one shoulder pale sea-blue chiffon caftan by Maz Azria she wore to the Broadcast Critic’s Awards in Santa Monica on Thursday night. It’s from Azria’s spring collection – and probably costs no more than $400.00! Not only that, she paired it with Stuart Weitzman shoes, that probably run under two hundred dollars. It’s hard to tell if she’s doing this to make a point: that there’s no reason to spend thousands on couture – or that she’s beautiful enough not to care – but then again, if you have Brad Pitt on your arm – and you look like Angelina – you don’t need five thousand dollar dresses.

It reminds us of what Will Smith said of his black suit and sunglasses in “Men in Black” – “I make this LOOK GOOD.” Angelina makes everything look good.
