Most ladies – single or married – out there don’t care much about this being Superbowl weekend. If they’re married, they’re football widows this weekend, and have to give in to the chips and beer. However, we can thank ladies like Rihanna and Keri Hilson for bringing a bit of fashion to the Superbowl. They both kicked off Superbowl weekend with VH1’s Pepsi Super Bowl Fan Jam 2010 concert in South Beach, Miami, on Thursday Feb. 4 – in these amazing looks! Timbaland showed up to play too, with Jojo, and Justin Bieber also played. Of course, we knew Rihanna was a fashion goddess – that white Elie Saab gown at the Grammys was a masterpiece. But Keri Hilson is really starting to turn our heads. Her amazing Dolce and Gabbana pink strapless gown at the Grammys was a total headturner, and made her body look tiny and toned – the best combo.

It was Rihanna vs. Beyonce as Fashion Queen of the Grammys – and since Beyonce had three different looks – one long, two short (including her stage costume, which we presume was Thierry Mugler from her show) – it’s hard to pronounce a winner. Any woman who sports three full looks during one awards show is our fashion hero – and they were wildly different. But Rihanna’s one look – a white Elie Saab high necked gown with an open key hold back, a big slit up the front, and pleating and draping all across the hips, and ruffling at the bib – was a pretty outrageous choice. You have to be stick thin to wear it (she is). You have to be tall (she is.) And you have to be daring (she is). It was both fashiony – and sexy at the back. Funny how Gaga was working hard to get all the attention, and Rihanna and Beyonce’ stole the show. Just goes to show that sexy always wins – good or bad – and if you do high fashion WITH sexy – you can’t go wrong. Isn’t it interesting that Rihanna was wearing Elie Saab – a designer Beyonce’ almost always wears????

Rihanna and Jay Z appear on the New Year’s Eve countdown show with Carson Daly – and since it pre-taped this week, we get to give you a preview of what Rihanna was wearing! A gorgeous white fur coat – with, of course, a camisole and short skirt underneath. That’s enough heat to warm up Times Square as the new decade is welcomed in. Rihanna, of course, is greeting it in fine style.

Have you noticed a lot of well dressed and well tressed Los Angeles ladies wearing gold framed aviator sunglasses lately? We have – the seventies style seems to be completely back in style and it’s about time the giant over sized plastic bug eyed frame went far far away. But when Rihanna wears a style, you know it’s super hot. Our major fashion girl was spied wearing Badgley Mischka couture eyewear in the “Perry” style in her video for “Hard.” They’re part of the spring 2009 collection, and guess what? They’ve got 24 karat gold lens! You can get these at the SAMA Eyewear stores in both Beverly Hills and on Santa Monica Blvd. opposite Hugo’s.

At a record release event in New York, Rihanna pulled out one of the best fashion tricks in the book: wear donned a simple chic black strapless jumpsuit, and then wore the skyscraper shoes of DEATH: metallic killers by Diego Dolcini, the former creative director of Gucci, who has started his own fabulous shoe line. Dolcini (not related to Dolce) did design shoes for Dolce & Gabbana, Bruno Magli, Pucci and others. He was born in Naples and lives and works near Bologna – so he’s off the beaten Milan path. But his shoes are right in the center of the design map right now. Go, Rihanna.
Jennifer Lopez knows how to do dangerous glamour, and Lady Gaga has taken dressing to stand out from the crowd to a whole new level. But one woman has captured the ground in between those two areas – Rihanna. Her style is crazy theatrical, but she doesn’t go as far as Gaga’s avant histrionics in that she maintains feminine glamour and always looks sexy – whereas Gaga pushes the envelope into just plain weird and not attractive. Gaga was recently quoted as saying, “I’d rather look interesting than good.” We applaud the bravery, but we also like to see really beautiful clothes as these shows. Rihanna really handled the task of the American Music Awards well. On the red carpet for arrivals, she chose an amazing strapless full-skirted Marchese dress with a longer dipping hemline in the back, and a fabric stiff enough for cut outs and bunching at the bustline. Her jewelry here is by Neil Lane and her shoes are by Alexandre Vaulthier. This is what you call A LOOK. For performance, she changed into a total white burn-out striped latex catsuit. It’s extreme and theatrical, sure – but she’s got the body for it, and she still looks gorgeous. You’ve got to hand it to this girl. She has fashion in her blood.

Yes, we were riveted by everything that Rihanna was saying to Diane Sawyer on “Good Morning America” yesterday and today. It was her first interview where she discusses what really happened with ex-love Chris Brown the night she was physically abused by him. That interview will also air on ABC’s “20/20.” But, we hate to admit it, we were also riveted by Rihanna’s dress. It’s a white sweater looking dress, clingy, with a high neck and fluffs of white fur on its short chic sleeves. We discovered the dress is part of the Fendi fall 2009 collection, and was shown on the runway with a black corset over it. (Somehow, we have the feeling Rihanna owns the corset, but left it home at the advice of her manager). Rihanna’s dark chocolate hair is now a more golden shade, and her makeup was also very gold with earth tones. And the cut is even more dramatic – thanks to her stylist Tippi Shorter, who also does Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson.

You gotta love Rihanna. Just on her way to the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York – a super hot spot for drinks or dinner – she’s in a black mini, stillettos, and this killer sharp tailored white jacket with black detail – and white gloves!!!!!!! Was this an homage to Michael Jackson? The whole outfit does have a slightly military feel, chic as it is. The girl’s workin’ a fall look in the summer in New York City. Instead of going beachy-hippie chick, she’s going uptown punk chic! You GO, girl. Now that’s fashion forward. - Merle Ginsberg
Okay, here at FR, we aren’t going to go on at giant length on the all the looks of the models and the celebs at the Met Ball in NYC – it’s a New York-centric event. But we do think it’s interesting to go over the trends and how they might affect real life and what this do to trends in evening looks overall. Here’s what we noted:

MINI’S AT NIGHT ARE HOT: Gwyneth started this trend, and now it’s everyone – mini for black tie events. Anne Hathaway did a Marc Jacobs purple poufy mini, and while she was ever so slightly Minnie Mouse with her big hair, it got looks – and was cute and young. Kate Moss also did a short metallic Marc Jacobs with an assymetrical cape, Jessica Alba did a blue crystal short dress, January Jones did a gold Michael Kors long sleeved mini, and Giselle wore a very tiny blue Versace dress in crystals that made everyone else nearly irrelevant. And of course, Madonna’s LV mini and headdress made a statement – and not necessarily a good one. What does all this shortness mean? If you want to turn heads at a dressy event – and you have great legs – AND you’re under 50 – or even 40 – go for a colorful or metallic mini. And have good legs.

COLOR IS THE STATEMENT: No one who wore a black dress – and there weren’t many women who did – got that much attention, except for Rihanna in a Dolce & Gabbana sleek tux (the boy look is always a grabber.) Jessica Biel’s orange long tiered Versace gown was vibrant, so was Kate Hudson’ s backless Stella McCartney gold dress – a bit of a body-conscious cliche, but pretty. We also loved Marion Cottilard in her pale peach Dior , and Cindy Crawford and Blake Lively both wore bright Versace blue. As did Donatella – at least you never forgot whose dresses were hers. However, neither Cindy nor Blake look like their dresses fit them well. Sample sizes aren’t always flattering on real bodies.

BIG BIG DRESSES: Heidi Klum stole the night in her deep blue strapless J. Mendel dress, that needed a whole city block to walk on. This woman knows how to grab the eye. Elizabeth Hurley’s ecru Elie Saab confection and Kate Beckinsale’s giant Marchesa also were impossible to avoid. Jessica Biel’s orange Versace was pretty big, too. So that’s another option – if you’re going to wear a gown, were a gown with a LOT of fabric!!
