Since America – and the whole world – is fascinated with the Obama’s right now – it’s not much of a surprise that the Future First Lady is already getting a style guide of her own. After all, she’s clearly the most fashionable first lady since Jackie Kennedy and Nancy Reagan, having worn young designers like Narciso Rodriguez, Thakoon – and of course, her now classic J. Crew appearance on the Jay Leno show – which upped the sales of J. Crew’s yellow cardigan, yellow and brown printed blouse and yellow pencil skirt significantly. Avon books has hired former Mademoiselle Magazine editor-in-chief Mandi Norwood to pen a fashion book about Michelle’s style. Now, as far we know, Michelle is NOT involved with the book whatsoever. But certainly, her style choices will be. We hear every designer in the country has pitched her original gowns to wear to the inauguration – and she’s a bigger get for a designer now than any actress going to the Oscars. (By the way, Mademoiselle folded a few years ago.)

The book is schedule by Avon to be released next spring, and Avon vice president Carrie Feron made this statement: “Not since Jackie O have we had a first lady become a fashion icon. Michelle Obama will be one of history’s most vibrant first ladies; she has a distinctive style that every American woman can aspire to, whether the consumer is a Target shopper or some one more likely to be found on Miracle Mile.” – Merle Ginsberg

Well, not really. The late great king of New York designers has been dead since 2004, but his career in fashion spanned four decades, and he dressed the likes of Ladybird Johnson, Pat Nixon, Nancy Reagan, Faye Dunaway and Glenn Close – and was friends with every major NY socialite from the sixties till the day he died of pneumonia in 2004. Now, Kim Hastreiter – one of the editors of Paper Magazine – has penned a book about the late, great Beene called “Geoffrey Beene: An American Fashion Rebel,” published by Assouline. Kim will do a signing on Monday November 3rd at Decades from 6 to 8, and since Paper gives such great events in L.A., we know she’ll attract a fascinating crowd of fashion people, art people, architecture peeps, etc.
