Baby Phat Lucky Magazine

There aren’t as many events as usual these days – have you noticed? But what there is is shopping parties — and plenty of ‘em. This Friday April 17 there will be one held by Lucky Magazine – the best magazine out there for inexpensive and reasonably priced looks – and Baby Phat, by Kimora Lee Simmons. It will be on the second floor of the Beverly Center from 4PM to 6PM, and they are offering all kinds of goodies – a Lucky gift bag, your photo taken by a professional photog (if it makes it into the September issue of Lucky by winning the readers vote at Luckystylespotter.com, you will get $500.00 worth of free Baby Phat clothing), and of course, the requisite discount – 25% off for those two hours. Baby Phat tends to draw women with strong glam over-the-top looks – so the crowd will be interesting, and so will the gift bag.

It’s not like New York and European designers don’t ever bring their clothes to Los Angeles. Bottega Veneta makes regular visits to Los Angeles every season to have showings in their Rodeo Drive store (they’ll be doing it next week on Oct 23) for stylists and editor – and other lines do the same. But Baby Phat’s Kimora Lee Simmons is actually having a presentation and cocktail party this Monday night October 20th, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm to show the spring 09 Baby Phat collection. It’s at the Gerry Building, 910 South Los Angeles Street, suite 401, in downtown L.A.

And knowing Kimora’s NY Baby Phat shows and other social events, there will be lines around the block and then some – but the crowd will be fun. Now that Kimora’s a reality star with her show “Life in the Fab Lane,” and she’s dating actor Djimon Hounsou – it’s not surprising she’s wanting to get more involved with the Hollywood scene.

Too bad right on La Cienega the same night, Mary J. Blige will be co-hosting the opening of the new Catherine Malandrino store (and wearing one of Catherine’s new spring designs, no doubt) – at the exact same time. Let’s see – will people drive downtown for Kimora – or stay in town for Mary J and Ms. Malandrino?

It will be an interesting fashion night in L.A.
