The new stylist competition reality show “Styl’d” debuted on MTV on Sunday night at 10 pm – and this first episode out of 8 proved to be a total winner. It’s the first fashion reality show ABOUT stylists, and it actually lets you have a real peek into what major stylists do. MMA stylist Jen Rade – who dresses Angelina Jolie, Kim Kardashian and Perrey Reeves, amongothers – takes aspiring assistants to a fitting with Kim Kardashian. MMA stylist Julie Weiss takes several aspiring assistants with her to dress the band V Factory – and one of them, Brett, actually gets offered a job that pisses Julie off royally. Jen Rade, who did a great job guest judging on “Project Runway,” gets her diva dander up when assistant Gary cops an attitude with Ms. Kardashian. Who out of Tara, Janna, Gary, Brett and Cody (who arrives on episode 2) will get a coveted contract to be an assistant stylist at the Margaret Maldonado Agency? We won’t find out till episode 8 – but in the meantime, it’s a blast to be a fly on this stylish wall, watching stylists and stars do all the things we could never be let in on in the past. And of course, watching the assistants flail and fume. This cast is far more entertaining than those whiners on “Project Runway” this season. This is our new favorite fashion show! It’s like being in a star’s dressing room before the Oscars – for a whole hour! We like the contrast between Jen Rade’s tough pr and Julie Weiss’s I’m-your-pal attitude. Next week we’ll meet stylist Eric Archibald. Can’t wait.
Here’s a trailer for the hippest new fashion docu-drama coming out this fall – and it’s on MTV and debuts November 1st at 10pm. It’s called “Styl’D” – and takes three major fashion stylists working in Hollywood: Jen Rade, Eric Archibald and Julie Weiss – and shows a number of young ambitious types assisting them on jobs dressing all manner of celebrities. They will be competing to win a contract with the Margaret Maldonado Agency where they will graduate from assisting to becoming a stylist on their own. They’ll go to photo shoots, carry racks, pull clothes, gather accessories – and of course, have to garner the favor of the stylist they’re reporting to. It’s the first TV reality series that lets viewers behind the scenes of the way stylists and fashion really work in Los Angeles. Take a peek at the trailer here – you’ve got a month to wait for the show. We can’t wait to read the blogs! And of course, we will be ALL over it. Expect interviews with Rade, Archibald and Weiss here at Fashion Rules, and all the inside scoop.

So I’ve been out and about lately, hitting the stores to see whats good. I’m all about buying staples and lasting statement pieces, especially in this economy. So I thought I would share with all of you my lovely fashion finds.
KAIN Pocket Tee, $88.00 at http://www.Intermixonline.com
I bought this shirt in tan and black because its super soft, and sheer enough to be sexy. I like to wear this tee with skinny jeans and high boots. To mix it up, I wear the black tee tucked into a short sequined mini skirt and pair it with some great ankle boots.
ISA JON cuff bracelet, $295.00 at Curve on Roberston.
This cuff bracelet rocks! I can wear it during the day while I’m working because its not too glam and has an old vintage feel to it. I also wear it out at night because its big and bold and the center stone really makes a statement.

Both of my fashion finds are keepers. I can live in the tees, and play with the cuff. Fun! – JW

So for anybody who watches the hot new shows, I’m sure you’ve noticed that fashion… HIGH fashion, is invading your living room television… and I’m not talking about Project Runway! Forget Vogue, Elle, and Harpers Bazaar: First it was Sex and The City, then there was Cashmere Mafia, Lipstick Jungle, Gossip Girl, and now The Beautiful Life. Seriously, kudos to Zac Posen and Versace for going mainstream on the CW. Who doesn’t love advertising to the millions of viewers that are faithfully tuned into their favorite shows! Even 90210 has stepped up their style, and Melrose Place is right behind them!
I personally think it’s refreshing to see our favorite stars fancied up on the small screen. Whether its street chic or red carpet worthy. it makes the shows that much more visually appealing!

As I was browsing through the web this had to be the biggest eye catcher…. Check out Sarah Jessica Parker on the set of “Sex And The City 2.” This is WILD, but as always SJP totally pulls it off. She must be evoking Cindi Lauper in the early 80’s. Can anyone say “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”?

So what do all three of these ladies have in common? FUN, FUN, FUN… that’s what these looks are all about. So here are some pieces that I think are fun, with no rhyme or reason, just simply because they are:

I hope everyone is as excited as I am about the Labor Day Weekend, which officially deems the end of summer. So I am headed up the coast for some fun in the sun and good times with good friends. It’s just a matter of packing my weekend bag, which is always the hardest part. Oh me oh my, what to wear??? A cute but casual outfit for daytime strolling and nighttime bar hopping???
I like Blake Lively’s look on the set of “Gossip Girl” because it’s cute and simple with a touch of attitude. The red pumps really turn this look up a few notches. I also like the fact that this look goes from summer to fall, by slipping off the shorts and slipping on your favorite pair of jeans or slacks.
So a white t-shirt, short shorts and some red heels for day, and I can change into my sexy slim jeans to go out at night. And of course, pile on some great accessories. I’m all about minimal packing, so this look really saves me. -JW

1 Hot Lady, 3 Hot Looks!
Aug26
I must say, Katie Cassidy is turning heads as the blonde hottie on the upcoming Melrose Place. She definately has it down… the “Sexy but Serious” face, the “I’m a Star” red carpet pose” and of course, the fun, flirty, and totally appropriate attire to match.

LOOK 1: At the Melrose Place premiere party she opted for a blue one shoulder slightly see through mini, with a silver mesh swarovski clutch and stud detailed black sandals. This sparkly mini has just the right amount of shimmer and the platform heels give this look a funky edge. While I love this look, we have seen a few starlettes rockin the 1 shoulder shimmer dress (remember Sienna Miller at the MTV Movie Awards). I thought we could go for somehting fresh and fun like TopShops “Hologram 1 Shoulder Dress” for $80.00 at topshop.com . Its very 1980′s, love it!

LOOK 2: At the Nylon Magazine’s TV Issue Launch Party party Cassidy went for a more “wild” look, pairing a Nicole Miller leopard mini and Rock & Republic “Mika” pumps with jet grommet detailing on the heels. She even did what most wouldn’t dare: she paired a leopard Judith Leiber clutch with her leopard dress. However, the contrast of the gold tone crystal studded clutch coordinated with her gold accessories against a more earth tone shaded dress saved her look from what might have been leopard overkill! Check out the “Teeze Me Satin Dress” in white/brown chita print for $70.00 at nordstrom.com . I also like the Steve Madden “Terific” pump in magenta for $99.95 atstevemadden.com. The extra platform at the bottom makes them more then just a simple pump.

LOOK 3: For the InStyle Magazines Summer Soiree, Cassidy was quite the “classy lady,” rocking a black and white printed Balenciaga dress with sexy silver sandals. Once again she was a bit daring, adding a patterned multi colored clutch to top off the look. Im not sure if that particular clutch was an after thought, but I must say, It Just Works! She really pulled off this ensemble. I found this great clutch that transitions from summer to fall by “Global Elements” for $43.00 at like.com .
So for all of you out there that want a night on the town to look like a star, just remember its all about confidence and owning your look. From bold leopard to slinky shimmer to ladylike satin, Katie Cassidy shined in all 3 looks. Clothing should be fun and fearless. If attitude was an outfit, what would yours be? – JW
Paris Couture Shows
Jul14
The Paris Couture shows were definitely something to talk about, runway fashion and stylish attendees alike. Both Joana Preiss and Vanessa Traina were darling in their shrunken jackets, and they both rocked them according to their own personal style. Joana went for a rocker chic look, pairing a graphic tank with a structured mini and edgy sandals. You can find graphic tees and tanks as low as $9.00 at www.wetseal.com . Zara makes quality mini blazers as low as $69.00.
Vanessa went for the “sweet but edgy” look, adding a shrunken leather jacket and funky leather heels to her soft floral print dress. Its a great way of incorporating both fall and summer pieces, and you get more use out your wardrobe. Bebe makes a great “leather washed moto jacket” for $98.00 on Bebe.com. Checkout Anthropologie’s “double keyhole dress” for $98.00 on www.anthropologie.com for a similar summer fete. Aldo is a great source for high fashion shoes at an affordable fashion price. The “Bevens” style for $125.00 and the “Orvis” for $98.00 are both great options for Vanessa’s look, and at the right price. The “Alfisi” for $125.00 is a great option for Joana’s look. There are so many great short skirts out there for summer, you can basically scout any mall and come across this look for less. The cropped jacket look can bring any outfit to life, so pick up the right look for you, and take it day or night, keeping it chic all summer long, even if your not in Paris! – JW

You can always count on BLACK! It’s flattering no matter how you wear it, and it caught my eye at the “YOUNG HOLLYWOOD AWARDS” on Anna-Lynn McCord (90210) and Evan Rachel Woods. They both had a young glamorous feel to them which I loved! Evan Rachel Wood wore a Gucci fall 09 dress, which definitely made a statement, while Anna-Lynn McCord went with a black strapless mini by Alice & Olivia.
I’m sure Evan Rachel Wood was turning heads in her shimmery dress and matching accessories throughout the night. I personally feel that it was a little too flashy for this type of event, so I decided to take a different approach at getting a similar look. Sheri Bodell has a dress on shopbop.com for $502.00 and a similar skirt that has that same look for $392.00 on switchboutique.com. This sparkly mini would look great paired with a black one-sided ruched chiffon Elizabeth and James black tank for $134.00, which can also be found at switchboutique.com. I love her belt, and found two similar affordable options at urbanoutfitters , ranging from $19.99 – $34.00. Steve Madden and Aldo are also doing very similar shoes to these Brian Atwood ones she’s wearing starting at $69.98. I would love to mix in a pop of spring color by adding a bright clutch, maybe hot pink or kelly green, try forever 21 accessory store.
Anna-Lynn McCord took a more simple approach at this event. She looked glamorous but approachable in this Alice & Olivia strapless ruched dress with a peek a boo bottom. To get this $440.00 look at a bargain price try Delias for ONLY $29.99, Betsey Johnson also has a similar version for $352.50, which can be found at Bloomingdales. Her shoes added an edge to this young starlets look, It was such a perfect balance with this party dress, and Steve Madden has the identical shoe for $129.95, and another similar version for only $74.96. She opted to go “hands free”, but for most ladies a clutch is a necessity! Again, I think throwing a little spring color to this look would not be a bad idea, so pick up a few affordable colored bags at forever 21 accessory store. -JW
