When Juicy founder/designers Pam Skaist Levy and Gela Nash Taylor showed up for an in-store at Bloomindale’s, they worked the red lipstick look for fall – but also, worked one of fall’s hottest accessories; the fuzzy woolly vest. It can be worn now over a t-shirt for now and early fall heat – then a turtleneck when the cool air starts to blow through. But you’ve got to have Michelle Obama-style arms to pull it off, so don’t forget the 8 or 10 pound weights!
Pam and Gela Alert
Jul16

Pam (Skaist-Levy) and Gela (Nash-Taylor, the P & G behind Juicy Couture, will make a public appearance at Bloomingdale’s Sherman Okays Fashion Square on August 15th. These two are a ton of fun, with their designer outfits, rock n’ roll “heavy metal” big wild hair, and hilarious takes on things. Calling them “colorful” is a big understatement! They’ll do a “World of Juicy” in-store signing for women and kids, and there will be gifts with a Juicy purchase of $200 or more. VIPS can enjoy a private reception, where they’ll get a gift bag filled with Juicy Couture goodies. The VIP reception is from noon to one on Sat Aug 15th, and the public is invited from 1pm to 3 pm/

We’ve already reported that the Ferragamo boutique on Rodeo will have Debi Mazar and Adrian Grenier hosting an event on Tuesday June 2 for their menswear designer, who is coming in from Italy, to benefit victims of the Italian earthquake that occurred near Rome.. But here’s some other goings-on surrounding the event: Gwyneth Paltrow, Lucy Liu, Madonna, Marisa Tomei, Demi Moore, Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria, Dita von Teese and Ms. Mazar are each signing and donating a Ferragamo bag of their own to be auctioned off internationally through GlobalGiving’s site on Ebay (ebay.com). All proceeds will directly benefit the victims of the L’Aquila earthquakel. A few of these bags are also stars in their own right: Jen Aniston’s bag is Ferragamo’s Eco-Friendly bag and was featured in Vogue. Eva Mendes’ and Demi’s bags have been photographed with their owners. Deb Mazar’s bag was handpainted by artist Kenny Scharf. Lucy Liu’s comes with a note that says, “from my closet to yours.” Demi is carrying her SF bag in this photo. You can go to ebay and check them all out.
The New York Times reported this last weekend that we are now living in the “New Age of NICE.” So these days, designer handbags are all about charity. Let’s hope it lasts. On Wednesday, PS Arts charity hosted its “Bag Lunch” at Juicy Couture’s Pam Levy’s home – and donated an enormous amount of money to arts and the public schools through the sales of designer handbags. We love that.

Bryan Rabin has promoted mega events for Juicy Couture, Christian Dior, W Magazine, Teen Vogue, Vogue, Stephen Sprouse, Louis Vuitton, and the list just goes on and on. You always know its one of his events by the quaility of the mix of people – young, older, but always artistic, eclectic, brilliant and wildly fun – not to mention, accomplished. We thought all of our club days were behind us – but not that Rabin is teaming with dj Kelly Cole to start Diamond Dogs on Thursdays at H.Wood – 1738 N. Orange, - at 9PM – the opening is this Thursday April 9 – well, we might get our clubbing crystal shoes back on for one last hurrah.
Not only that, on his committee are stylists Arianne Phillips, Lysa Cooper, George Kotsiopolous and Ilaria Urbinati; designers Katy Rodriguez, Jeremy Scott and Michael Schmidt, and makeup queen Kathy Jeung, who works with Gwen Stefani.
It should be quite a crowd – worthy of the Bowie song for which it’s named. And it will be every Thursday at 9PM. This should spice up the summer. – Merle Ginsberg
FLOPPY HATS ARE BACK
Oct30
Remember that iconic photo of Jennifer Lopez in the dove grey floppy hat?
It made a lot of girls drop everything to run and procure floppy felt hats, a la the seventies. It’s a hippie boho look, but it’s pretty much a classic – it always looks femmie and sweet – and is great for a bad hair day.
Well, the floppy hat is back this fall, in felt. Yes, they look right with all those print chiffons over leggings and boots – it’s the total L.A. look, only this time, it’s worn with dresses and leather jackets, and not jeans.
One of the best is Juicy Couture’s floppy, which comes in ecru, a great neutral tan-camel, and black – and has a nice inset bow in the felt. For $85.00, it’s a good buy, and you can pack it, because it’s non crush-able.
Best way to find it fast Bloomingdales.com. But the one at Forever21 in dove grey is an even better buy, at $14.80 – and you can snag it at Target.com. – Merle Ginsberg
MAXFIELDS IN MALIBU???
Oct10
John Varvatos just opened there. Missoni is about to open there. Retailers from all over the world have gotten really smart about the fact that residents of Malibu probably have lots of money – whether they spend weekends or all week there – they SPEND. So instead of waiting for them to come to stores, they are bringing the stores to THEM. Now, Tommy Perse of Maxfield’s on Melrose, one of L.A.’s greatest stores, is opening in Malibu in the next few months. Now, do people wear Yohji and Commes des Garcons in Malibu??? We thought they just wore Juicy Couture Well, we bet they start pairing their Juicy with cashmere sweaters and Yohji or Rick Owens jackets. Heck, there isn’t much to do in The Bu in the winter – but now residents can add SUPER SHOPPING to the list. Sure, Theodore and Planet Blue carry some good chic brands (Marni, Anna Sui, Ann Demuelemeister, Gaultier), but nobody does like Maxfield’s. Get ready for a black out on Malibu Beach!! And get ready to see Victoria Beckham in The Bu – whether it’s Malibu, or Nobu Mailbu.
BARACK’S DESIGNER GOODS
Oct03
We know Michelle Obama has been wearing a lot of designer Thakoon’s best fall 08 designs – but now Barack Obama has his OWN line of designer goods.
Go to BarackObama.com, click on “store,” and then, on “Runway to Change:” if you’ve been wanting to sport some election t’shirts or buttons and haven’t loved what you’ve seen, there are t’ shirts here designed by Vera Wang, Juicy Couture, Costello Tagliapietra, Alexander Wang, Beyonce’ and Tina Knowles for the House of Derreon, Zac Posen (this one reads “Dare to Dream”), Tory Burch, Maria Cornejo, plus t’s by Pharrell and by Jay Z. There are tote bags by Marc Jacobs (it has Obama buttons on it), Diane von Furstenburg, Isaac Mizrahi, Derek Lam and Rag & Bone – and there is a cardigan by Lutz & Patmos, and a scarf by Rachel Roy. These are just in time for L.A. Fashion Week, which starts on October 12.
This is some of the best designed election paraphernalia we’ve ever seen – and will no doubt, become collectors’ items, no matter what happens on November 4, 2008. – Merle Ginsberg
