Erin Wasson is a supermodel, a fashion designer – and now a jewelry designer. How can someone that beautiful really do all these things? This annoys us- if she weren’t so damn cool, nice and down to earth. This Saturday, March 27, Ron Herman will hold a launch party for Erin’s new cool line of costume jewelry – it’s called Low Luv, and it’s as streetwise and groovy as her clothing line. Drop into Ron Herman at Fred Segal this Saturday between 2 and 4pm, there will be some interesting folks dropping in – perhaps a few celebs? – and check out the affordable and fun jewelry. 8100 Melrose at Crescent Heights. Actually, have lunch at Fred Segal before – it’s a fun scene on a nice spring Saturday.

WWD reported yesterday that Bravo Network is developing 3 new fashion-oriented tv shows – we knew one was about a photographer couple, one is on fashion pr Kelly Cutrone – but the third is said to be about L.A. fashion boutique Fred Segal. We assume this has to be about Fred Segal Santa Monica, since the real owners of Fred Segal Melrose are Ron Herman and Ron Robinson. In any case, it’s nice to see some fashion tv centered in L.A. – and it helps the city that the sixth season of “Project Runway” on Lifetime is centered here. – Merle Ginsberg

Just don’t call it a pop-up store. The JBrand Gallery will open tomorrow, Saturday August 15th at Fred Segal Melrose (8100 Melrose at Crescent Heights), and there will be a gaggle of JBrand experts on hand to help educate the serious jeans consumer, from 2pm to 4 pm. JBrand owners Jeff Rudes and Susie Crippen will be on hand, too, and will be showcasing a lot of great new styles, including fall looks from JBrand Classic, their mens’ line, JBrand Boutique (which includes jackets, knit shirts and jeans with unique style elements) and of course, the three styles JBrand debuted recently in which they collaborated with British avant garde designer, Hussein Chalayan. Those are the hot hot jeans for fall, like the legging style in this pic – and how fun to try them on with JBrand staff on hand, to tell you what the best look is for your specific body type. This is the first time all the JBrand looks – plus their inspirations – can be viewed in one unique environment. If you’ve got a jeans jones at all, you want to get your blue-covered butt over there on Saturday afternoon.
Now, the reason you can’t call it a “Pop Up” store is that JBrand Gallery has no end in sight on the first floor of Fred Segal Melrose – it will be there indefinitely. But it would sure be fun to take a gander on its opening day, and meet the team, and also see how JBrand employees work their own looks – always inspiring.
J Brand co-Founder and Creative Director Susie Crippen said in the press release for the event, “One of the greatest rewards of doing the J Brand Gallery at Ron Herman is to be able to interact with our customers one on one and introduce them to new styles. It also allows for people to see where we started and how the brand has progressed.”
“It is an honor to partner up with Ron Herman,” Jeff Rudes, co-founder and President of JBrand made this quote: “Ron’s store is such a premiere retailer that has been a platform for launching great brands. We are very excited as this is the first in-store Gallery for J Brand and we are presenting select pieces that have been hand picked by the principles of JBrand and Ron Herman.”
And what’s a fashion event without celebrities? Expected are Jennifer Love Hewitt, Lindsay Price, Jessica Lowndes from “ 90210,” Jaime Ray Newman, Eastwick Nelsan Ellis from “True Blood,” and Jason Gray Stanford from “Monk.”

Jamal Hamadi, an LA hairdresser who grew up in Paris, and who worked with super-colorist Louis Licari in the early nineties, has done it all – British Vogue covers with Linda Evangelista, hair for portraits with Sharon Stone, Lisa Marie Presley, Meg Ryan and many others. His product line, Hamadi, makes use of shea butter and natural elements, and Jamal was one of the first who created eco friendly products in LA.
He’s doing a day of natural beauty this Saturday, June 27th,from noon to five pm, at Fred Segal Santa Monica (500 Broadway in SM). He and his team are going to be showing consumers and insiders how to create beautiful and “camera ready hair” – something Angelenos need to care about, right? If you want a real consult with a Hamadi beauty specialist, R.S.V.P. to contact@hamadibeauty.com with subject “Fred Segal Appointment” Please provide your name, phone number, personal email address and desired appointment time. (appointments are 20 min blocks). Particularly useful to those who want to restore their hair to a healthy condition.

Okay, mark your calendars: May 22. That’s the date next week that Ron Herman is marking FIFTY off on major designer pieces from spring – and that’s even EARLIER than Barneys will go forty off (Memorial Day weekend)! And these designers are absolutely among our faves: Dries Van Noten, Lanvin, Martin Margiela – plus Alexander Wang, J Brand, Elizabeth & James, Isabel Marant, Rag & Bone and Band of Outsiders. These are about the best clothes on the market for spring, so do NOT miss this. The sale will take place at various RH locations: Fred Segal Melrose, the Beverly Drive location in BH, the RH in Brentwood – and Malibu. Not only that – these pieces are so good, you can wear them in the fall if you shop with aforethought.

Clearly, Fred Segal in Santa Monica is stepping up their events calendar: they’ve had a weekend event for the last few weeks, and this weekend, they’ve got another one at Fred Segal Fun: an evening of cocktails, shopping and music this Saturday, May 2, from 3 PM to 7 PM, with the Millionaire Matchmaker, Bravo’s own Patti Stanger. She’s signing copies of her new book, “Become Your Own Matchmaker: 8 Easy Steps for Attracting Your Perfect Mate.” Stanger claims to have gained 25 pounds making her tv show, visiting craft services and now has lost 15 of them, and has even fessed up to having a breast reduction in March. Interestingly enough, we discovered she started her career as a fashionista: working for Jou Jou Jeans and Saks Fifth Avenue. It figures – an L.A. girl who dons a tight white pantsuit has to have had a background in fashion. Fred Segal Fun is at 500 Broadway in Santa Monica, and of course, there will be the requisite cocktails and music.

It’s always fun to visit Fred Segal Santa Monica – all those fun delicious and different shops, and amazing jewelry! This weekend, on April 11th from 4PM to 7PM, they will hold an event that combines fine art, fashion and charity, with proceeds going to Children’s Action Network. It’s a reception for artist Cole Sternberg’s show of one of a kind clothing pieces in partnership with designer clothing brand Nice Collective from SF, which has dressed Gavin Rossdale, Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails. There will also be a show of Sternberg’s mixed media artworks that include stained glass.
If you’re in Santa Monica and feel like passing through, it should be interesting.

Starting in April, Ron Robinson and Fred Segal Melrose will launch an L.A. designer series, with an in-store designer showing his or her collection every month. The specific designer will also create a one of a kind limited edition of clothes for the boutique.
The first designer will be one of L.A.’s best, Juan Carlos Obando, who’s botten a CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund nomination, and whose been showing in New York for several seasons – and his clothes are currently sold at Des Kohan on Cloverdale and Wilshire. Obando is also about to launch a new hair care line named N. 4, and a limited edition scarf – this will be part of his cruise line, showing in NY in June.
He’ll be in store at Fred Segal Melrose on April 4, so check it.
John Eshaya, former buyer for Fred Segal Melrose and Ron Herman, now has a very successful jeans and casualwear line called JET, that includes colorful stretch jeans, hoodies, t’s – worn by celebs like Hilary Duff, Christina Aguilera, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Olsen. Eshaya knows fashion in L.A. like nobody else, and now he has a JET store within Fred Segal Santa Monica, where you can find all the pieces of the line in one place. The hoodies make great cozy gifts for Christmas, so check them out. They’re soft, they’re sweet, and very L.A. cool.
