Bravo’s two reality fashion competition, “Launch My Line,” hosted by Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared fame (they just showed in Milan last week), has an official start date: December 2 at 11pm. The show will debut after “Top Chef Finale I” on Wednesday night Dec 2 at 11pm, then again at 11pm on Dec 9, after “Top Chef Finale II” – then it will move back to its regular spot, Wednesday nights at 10pm on December 16th. It features ten teams of designers matched up with media professionals to create an entire line of clothing built around a theme – the winning line will be launched in stores! We can’t wait to watch twin co-hosts who are also brilliant designers – and we can’t wait to see their wardrobe. “Launch My Line” was originally scheduled to debut on September 16th, but Bravo thought the December time slot was stronger.

Mary J.’s got a lot of different looks – and you can see that every night right now on her AT&T commercial, where she’s hippie chick one minute, and gansta girl the next. But this week in New York, she’s rocking the skinny pant with a jacket and blouse look. On Wednesday, she was in Gucci at the Empire State Building lighting ceremony in celebration of Gucci’s involvement with charity F.F.A.W.N. She’s got on a Gucci fall/winter grey one button pin point jacket and a black pocket square, a black knit top and skinny black pants. And we mean, those pants are SKINNY! On Tuesday night in New York, she made the rounds in tight black pants and a steel blue satin blouse, stopping off to hang out with Dan and Dean Caten of DSquared, who introduced their new eyewear line to America at a giant two floor loft party, where they greeted celebs like Mary J. and Hilary Duff on a roof high above Manhattan, with an amazing view. The designing duo just returned to NY from Toronto, where they were born – and where they got a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. Soon, they’ll be heading back to Milan, to show their spring 2010 collection in a week and a half.
DSquared Stop Over in L.A. for July 4th Weekend, On Their Way to Direct Their First Commercial
Jul07DSquared – twin designers Dean and Dan Caten of Milan, by way of Toronto – were in Los Angeles over July 4th weekend, after showing a huge menswear show in Milan the week before. In town to put finishing touches on their new Bravo fashion reality show for fall, they were then headed out to Montana, for a week’s shoot on their first-ever women’s perfume commercial, to air worldwide this fall. And they’re directing it themselves! After working with Britney Spears, Fergie and Madonna on giant tour costumes and videos, they can clearly direct, and it will be interesting to see the results.
The perfume is She Wood, the feminine version of He Wood, which came first. She Wood contains neroli, wood smells, and a bit of vetiver. Like everything these boys do, it’s reminiscent of leather and denim, and it’s a girl take on a boyish smell.

Canadian-by-way-of-Milan, designers extraordinaire Dean and Dan Caten – the DSquared twins – are really moving into other media. They’ve already appeared on camera in major client Fergie’s video for “Clumsy,” and now it’s been announced they’ll do a show for Sirius Radio, their BPM satellite channel. Turns out, they’re heavily influenced by music – not that surprising since they dress Fergie, Lady Gaga and did the costumes for Britney Spears’ recent tour – and mix and choose all the music for their own runway extravaganzas, both for their mens and womens’ collections. The Sirius monthly show is called “Dean and Dan on Air: Style in Stereo, and they’ll explain their runway music, then talk, then more music. It should be a nice mix of music and style, which we’ve never heard on the radio.
This is all part of the DSquared invasion of America. The twin designers, best known for killer jeans and t shirts, are in Saks Fifth Avenue in the US, but have 500 stores in Europe. They just launched their new eyewear at the Cannes Film Festival with a big international style, and it’s already been announced they’ll host a fashion competion show for Bravo in the fall. And of course, their Milan men’s runway show will take place the third week of June – look for some American male celebs to “surprisingly” show up in the audience!
Now, how you tell twin voices apart on the radio, we’re not sure – but they’re both wildly entertaining, so it may not matter!
Somehow, he managed to leap onto the runway during Spanish designer Agatha Ruiz De La Prada’s show in Milan and strutted around before security chased, captured and turned him over to police, reported Italy’s ANSA news agency. A lesson to those who want to break into fashion shows: become famous comics first.
The Cambridge University-educated star was detained at a police station for about half an hour, during which someone fetched his passport to vouch for him. Eventually, he released without charge.
What with fashion all over movies and tv lately – whether it’s reality shows or scripted shows like “Gossip Girls” – Baran Cohen’s movie could be the first real fashion comedy. – MERLE GINSBERG
