Cameron Diaz does red hot sexy on the cover of August Harper’s Bazaar, shot by Terry Richardson, then she dons the autumn menswear inspired looks on the inside – equally chic. The issue comes out July 20th, not so great for her new movie with Tom Cruise, “Knight and Day,” which got pretty bad reviews – and isn’t exactly killing it at the box office like expected, either. Plus, after “Inception” and “Salt” open next week, the pic will probably nose dive a little lower – but it is opening internationally in mid July. Nonetheless, the pics are fun, and so are CD’s quotes – such as:
On Her Famous Bod: “Most booties that propel girls are usually the bigger booties. I have a little tiny one, but it is, nonetheless, juicy.” On Dating: “I grew up with the Dodgers, but now I’m a Yankees fan.” On Aging: “The only way to stop it is if you die. But that’s not a great alternative.” She’d much rather be Helen Mirren. “That woman is drop-dead sexy. She’s not trying to turn back the hands of time, she is just taking care of herself.”
On her relationships, and dating bad boys: “I’ve always loved men and boys,” she says with a grin. “I don’t get hung up on what boys do. I don’t have a nagging nature. I feel like I can be a woman but also relate to a man. . . Who doesn’t like the bad boy, until you grow up and realize bad boys are not the way to go? I’m done with that.”
On working with her ex, Justin Timberlake, in the upcoming comedy movie “Bad Teacher”: “Justin and I have laughed together for years. He is the funniest guy; you’ve seen the stuff he does on SNL.”
So even if you have no interest in “Knight and Day,” Cameron’s always fun on paper!

Possibly the only thing that would let most women look like Cameron Diaz would be a three hour workout everyday and plastic surgery. But that doesn’t mean you can’t imitate her dresses for a lot less coin. Of course, did she pay for the fabulous black ruched one-shouldered Lanvin dress paired perfectly with black Lanvin chain-embellished ankle pumps that she wore to the “Knight and Day” premier in Seville, Spain? Not likely. But it was probably an eight thousand dollar look. For $450, you can buy this Foley & Corinna one shoulder mini dress at foleyandcorinna.com or at their boutique on Melrose just east of Crescent Heights. Just make sure you are under 35 if you intend to pull this off, and at least do a one hour workout everyday. This is the least Cameron imitators can do.

First off, Cameron Diaz – starring in “Knight and Day” with Tom Cruise, a madcap adventure film, is working the gams again. While the hundred million dollar costing film had NO U.S. premiere – not in L.A., not in N.Y. – because the distributor’s fear Cruise getting bad press because of former weird behavior – Cameron DID have a change to show off her well toned legs on “Good Morning America.” Shorts on a national tv morning talk show? They’re not indecent – they just look rather – short – and casual. Most actresses go on morning tv in dresses and heels – or good looking pants and heels. Not Cameron! She recently told In Style Mag she actually loves aging, and that it makes life so much more interesting. But it doesn’t look here like she’s welcoming in the aging process anytime soon. Now, the film DID have an odd premiere in Seville, Spain – not even Barcelona or Madrid. We don’t know the logic behind this move, but not a lot of English is spoken in Seville – we have to assume that’s got something to do with it. And there, of course, she wore the shortest dress she could get away with. Meanwhile, we read some early reviews online – and they were actually pretty good. This may be the first Tom Cruise movie to make its money back in several years. Let’s hope so, also, for Cameron’s sake. Both “Vanilla Sky” stars are in need of a hit.

Is Cameron Diaz dating A Rod just as baseball season kicks in? Well, we only know what we read on that score. Is she playing the field or is she up to bat? That’s the question on everybody’s mind. But THIS we do know: Cameron has separate looks for New York and L.A. Check her out at the premier of “Shrek Forever After” at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York: a very chic slim cut black dress, over the knee – her hair pulled back, she’s the picture of ladylike cocktail attire. A Manhattan sophisticate, who looks like she grew up in Connecticut. BUT – on the red carpet at Universal City for the Hollywood version of the movie’s premier, she did a total 360, wearing a poppy red Oscar de la Renta mini dress. We have a feeling that dress did NOT start life that way – Oscar, the perfect gentleman, would NEVER cut a dress that short. It sort of looks like Cameron borrowed a pre-teen’s dress. But isn’t it interesting that Cameron looks like a total California girl here – long blond hair, mini dress, lots of leg, and big lips. She clearly understands regional dressing. – Merle Ginsberg

The opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival was a Vanity Fair party, and ladies went for sexy cocktail, even though it’s a bit of a chilly early spring in New York City right now. But for the second night and the premier of “Shrek Forever After,” with stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz, it was more of a cover up kind of an evening. Even Cameron Diaz, famous for showing off her well-toned bod and legs, wore a very ladylike black Lanvin shift and nude pumps. Perhaps this is Cameron in her “Princess Fiona” mode. She even told People Magazine that her co-star of the new movie, “Knight and Day” – Tom Cruise – brought his little daughter Suri Cruise to meet her because “Suri LOVES Princess Fiona.” Melanie Griffith accompanied husband Antonio Banderas, one of the voices in the now-classic animation – and wore so many black loose layers, she looked a little like a bag woman. And Robert DeNiro, who’s brainchild the festival is, came with wife Grace Hightower, who wore a skintight strapless the first night – but on this night, wore a rather baggy black cover everything sheath. Maybe she read her press from the night before? Well, after all, it IS a kid’s film.

We are wavering on Cameron Diaz’s Oscar look this year. She usually goes messy and undone, with messy hair – or very very sexy. This is her image – hot chick with hot bod. So for her to suddenly emerge in “princess” mode – in the biggest, most old-school ballgown of the Oscars, by Oscar de la Renta – with red lips and perfectly waved hair – well, it was too much of a shock. We couldn’t even see her figure, let alone imagine it. It was like she was angling for something – to suddenly be seen as a good girl or a young mom? Then she did double duty (as just a few other stars did – like Jennifer Lopez) – changing for the Vanity Fair party into a same-color cocktail dress, also very demure for her: not short, not low cut. What’s up with Cameron Diaz’s grown up act? We get the feeling she’s trying to be taken “seriously” – and going a little too far. Cameron, bad girl suits you MUCH better – even if it’s only a stylistic choice. And is it US, or was her hair suddenly MUCH longer for the VF party at the Sunset Tower Hotel?

Kim Kardashian had more reason than most to be excited about the Superbowl – her man Reggie Bush plays for The Saints. She even had her nails done to cheer on the New Orleans team – and it seems to have worked! She may single-handedly bring back nail art. Meanwhile, Katie Holmes – with husband Tom Cruise and his new co-star Cameron Diaz from “Knight and Day” – is always uncannily fashion forward. At a CAA pre-Superbowl party, she wore a flight style leather jacket and army green, the hot new – well, that really THAT new – for spring. Get ready for army jackets and khaki to make a giant comeback.

It’s proof the Golden Globes have become increasingly important in the Hollywood firmament by their hosts, their presenters, their growing ratings on NBC, and the seriousness of the hair styles! Long straight or wavy hair may take grooming and time – and it might look very pretty – but it conveys “daytime,” as Julia Roberts’ bouncy locks confirmed at the Golden Globes. A chic shiney chignon or up-do conveys “serious” and “black tie,” as we’ve always known about the Oscars. This Saturday night, at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, we expect to see more hair down and wavy – and gowns and dresses that are less structured, don’t have trains – it will all come down at least a notch. But here are the tight topknot bunch from the Golden Globes red carpet: Marion Cottilard, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kate Hudson. It’s clear hairdressers were thinking alike when they used shine products like Moroccan Oil (which is what Mark Townsend used on Marion Cottilard’s tight top knot) to gloss up up the locks, and make them shiney and close to the head – this allows the eye to always go straight to the body and the gown. It also makes eyes more prominent.

Cameron Diaz almost always wears some pretty controversial dresses to the Globes and Oscars – remember that Chinese Ungaro that one year? That was scary. But one must give her credit for having real fashion nerve – unlike someone like Jennifer Aniston, who always wears the exact same dress by a different designer (this year, Valentino). Cameron’s red satin floor length Alexander McQueen looked like a full length hit of shiny red lipgloss – it was NOT SHY. She clearly has the figure to pull if off, that’s for sure – and it fit her well and showed off her figure in a great light. The color, though, was better suited to television than to the carpet. And particularly to the rain, and to this umbrella – but that isn’t really her fault. At least her hair was pulled back and not dishevelled and she let the dress do all the talking – cause this dress isn’t quiet. We do love the McQueen flared and slightly puffed shoulder. It’s a well shaped dress.
