Angelina in black – check. Angelina with Brad – check. Angelina looking gorgeous – check. But Angelina Jolie in a MINI dress? This is unchecked – because it’s a rare rare occurrence, possibly because she’s been pregnant and having children for a while. In any case, she wore this strapless black tiny Giorgio Armani mini to the premier of “Salt” at the Chinese theater last night – her first big action movie premier in a while – and she, her figure and the dress were an amazing combo. Even without a tan! Also, Angie’s hair seems to be longer and a bit blonder than usual – we’re definitely picking up on some blond streaks here. And Brad doesn’t look bad, either, in his new clean shaven look – wearing Tom Ford, his usual. It suits him.

An Oscar is no doubt a girl’s best accessory – or Brad Pitt – and both would be good, too. (Actually, Angelina does have both – lucky girl. And those emerald earrings! Diamonds are officially over now!) But back to reality – what to pair with your Oscar? Kate Winslet paired it with a new spring Prada cervo antik bag – very chic. And it doesn’t clash with

Meanwhile, Kate, the veteran of 21 movies, has absolutely no projects on the horizon at this moment – but we don’t think that will last long.

Yes, we know all you can think about are the two big O’s: the Oscars, and the Obamas. But save some time this Sunday for the 15th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which is a fairly different affair than the Golden Globes or the Critics Choice Awards. It’s much more focused on the thespian aspect of acting, and there’s only one party afterwards, hosted by People Magazine – so it’s a bit less festive, particularly in light of the fact that the Screen Actors Guild has a list of grievances, and might be going on strike shortly. Expect a somewhat more restrained tone – in the fashion as well as the speeches.

The red carpet pre-show will start at 3:05pm PST on TNT or TBS, and will last two hours – but we won’t be able to see the actual show till 8pm PST, as it will be tape delayed here on the West Coast (on TNT and TBS) – but if you want to see who’s winning, you can check CNN.com, MSNBC.com, Google news, or almost any internet news outlet between 5pm and 8pm, when it airs on the East Coast. E! will have a red carpet pre-show airing from 5pm to 8pm on Sunday; TV Guide Channel will air between 4pm and 8 pm, and CNN, between 6pm and 8pm.

The female nominees for the SAG Awards are exactly the same as for the Oscars on Feb 22, but with two exceptions: Kate Winslet is nominated in BOTH SAG categories, leading actress and supporting actress – but for the Oscars, she is nominated as only Leading Actress for “The Reader.” And Marisa Tomei did not get a SAG nomination for “The Wrestler,” because the fifth nominee in that category is of course Kate Winslet.

The female presenters at the SAGS are Taraji P. Henson, Amy Adams, Freida Pinto, Viola Davis, Kyra Sedgwick, Amy Poehler, Susan Sarandon and Christina Applegate – and yes, all the major tv stars will be there, too. And yes, Brad and Angelina are both nominated, and will definitely be there – even though they were in Paris this week to promote the international opening of “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

Okay, we have to admit it – this is a bit of a non story! But it IS a great visual! We just had to show you how amazing Brad and Angelina look when they’re color coordinated. This is the Paris premier of “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” the movie that earned the most Oscar nominations today – and the super color is all done up in grey chicness, no doubt to match the Paris sky in January.

You gotta hand it to Angelina Jolie: she is rich enough, beautiful enough, and famous enough to wear the greatest labels in the world: Lanvin, Givenchy, Balenciaga, YSL, Gianfranco Ferre, Balmain, Chanel. And yet, she wears affordable clothing that anyone could buy. And she makes it look MUCH more amazing than it is. Case in point: the one shoulder pale sea-blue chiffon caftan by Maz Azria she wore to the Broadcast Critic’s Awards in Santa Monica on Thursday night. It’s from Azria’s spring collection – and probably costs no more than $400.00! Not only that, she paired it with Stuart Weitzman shoes, that probably run under two hundred dollars. It’s hard to tell if she’s doing this to make a point: that there’s no reason to spend thousands on couture – or that she’s beautiful enough not to care – but then again, if you have Brad Pitt on your arm – and you look like Angelina – you don’t need five thousand dollar dresses.

It reminds us of what Will Smith said of his black suit and sunglasses in “Men in Black” – “I make this LOOK GOOD.” Angelina makes everything look good.

There are a number of startling moments in the new Brad Pitt/Cate Blanchett movie, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” but some of them belong to Cate  Blanchett’s amazing wardrobe, created by costumer Jacqueline West, who has also worked on “Henry and June,” “Quills,” “The Banger Sisters,” and Terrence Malick’s “The New World” – as well as on his new movie called “Tree of Life,” with Sean Penn and Brad Pitt.

Blanchett plays Daisy, who meets Benjamin Button when she’s a child and he’s a very old man – because he is growing backwards – the conceit of the film based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Eventually, the two are the same age – and fall in love. Daisy becomes a dancer with the famed George Balanchine, and when she meets Benjamin for the first time when they’re both young adults – she wears a startling red dress with short sleeves, tight bodice, and a longer tea-length full skirt that literally stops traffic. Later on in the film, a la Audrey Hepburn, she wears black slim pants, flats, and a short yellow swing coat. Her costumes are always close to the body and very dancer-like, and she carries them with incredible grace and lithe-ness. We expect Ms. West will get an Oscar nomination for the costumes in ”Benjamin Button”  - and designers will keep an eye on Ms. Blanchett’s wardrobe, which will no doubt inspire some looks in the upcoming fall collections, to be shown this February and March in NY and Europe.

Jennifer Aniston graces the December cover of Vogue, on your newsstands any moment – looking more beautiful than ever – but also rather – unrecognizable? She’s obviously been on MANY magazine covers, and maintains the status of being womens’ magazine’s top selling actress – but her face looks a bit – finessed – on this cover. You be the judge.

Aniston has several movies coming out, also, in 2009 – but none of them all that soon. No matter. Magazines no longer match up covers with actual movie release dates. Jennifer stars in the movie version of the dating advice book, “He’s Just Not That Into You” in Feb 2009, with Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johannsen, Jennifer Connelly, Ben Affleck, Kevin Connelly and Justin Long – and also in “Marley & Me” with Owen Wilson, which has no scheduled release date yet. And this week, she has a big co-starring role in “30 Rock” on Thursday night.

But the big news about this Vogue cover, aside from Jen’s look, her new projects, and the fact that she DOES speak about off-again, on-again boyfriend John Mayer, is what she says about Angelina Jolie. Jen says she called ex-husband Brad Pitt on the birth of his recent twins with Angelina, and congratulated him – and that the two are on good terms. But she also says that when Jolie spilled the beans to a Vogue cover about a year ago that she and Pitt began their affair on the set of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” – when he was still married to Jen -  when Jen was still unaware the affair had begun – she was shocked. “What Angelina did was very uncool,” Aniston declares in the magazine. She also says everyone should stop feeling sorry for her, at age 39, for being unmarried and childless. “I don’t feel like I’m supposed to be any further along or somewhere I’m not,” she says. Good for her. It’s ridiculous when tabloids do pity party covers on her – the woman is rich, beautiful, has tons of friends, and a huge career. Not to mention, magazine cover status up the wazoo.

No doubt, this will be the biggest selling issue of the magazine this year. And this year, magazines are all about the numbers.

“W,” Oliver Stone’s new movie, opens this week, and the early reviews are that the biopic of the least popular American president in history will actually be very popular. But in the fashion world, “W” is most immediately associated with W Magazine, the monthly consumer version of Women’s Wear Daily,  considered to be amongst the artsiest and chicest high fashion magazines in the world. It’s widely praised for its photography, often running long portfolios by well-known photots  and art photographers of either fashion shoots or celebrities – or a mix of the two. Michael Thompson, Steven Klein and Phillip Lorca DiCorcia are three very well known photographers who are often shown on the pages of W Magazine.

The November issue, you probably know – unless you’ve been under a rock or simply obsessed by the election – has Angelina Jolie on the cover, for her new movie, “Changeling,” for which it’s rumored she’ll be Oscar nominated. All the photos, including the cover shot – in which she’s nursing one of her new twins – were taken by Brad Pitt. Pitt has expressed an interest in photography before – he worked with pal Stephen Klein on the very long portfolio for W in his character for “Fight Club,” and again when he and Angelina did the shoot for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” right after his divorce from Jennifer Aniston. This time he actually got behind the camera, and the result is unique: Angelina looks beautiful, rather funky, making unusual faces and clowning into the lens, She worked with longtime stylist Jen Rade, who has also dressed her for the Oscars, the Cannes Film Festival, and most of her appearances in the last few years. It’s a big career boost for Rade, who’s also worked with such wide-ranging artists as Tupac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Pink and Marilyn Manson, and is also a movie and commercial costumer.

Meanwhile, Angelina models an interesting new white t shirt in two photos, which is by L.A. based-company L’Agence, which will be available in November at Fred Segal Melrose. But you can check it out now at the brand’s website, Lagencefashion.com. L’Agence is going to enter the marketplace in a big way – with a lot of street style, and very reasonable prices. A number of well-known L.A. stylists contributed look ideas to the line, which has been in development for a year.

And watch for more of Jen Rade’s stylist work on Angelina, Pink and Kim Kardashian in the next few months. Rade is known for putting all kinds of labels on her clients, and vintage clothing – “it’s never about the price, it’s always about the dress,” is her motto.

Saturday night of this past weekend was a big coming out party for Angelina Jolie and her fans – she has been living in France and more recently, Germany, where Brad Pitt is shooting a movie with Quentin Tarantino. And she gave birth to twins this summer. So the anticipation of seeing her at the premier of Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling,” which opens on October 24, ran pretty high – both for fans and for internet surfers. Angelina’s look does not change a great deal – she tends to go with black, white or grey – and she tends to wear shapes that are close to the body.

So it was not a huge surprise that she chose a strapless black cashmere cocktail dress by Versace, that fit her like a cashmere glove – pushing her wavy hair to one side, and eschewing a necklace in favor of showing off the contrast between her beautiful skin the the stiffness of the dress.

Her shoes were winter Sergio Rossi peep toe pumps, with gold contrasting heels – very chic. They’re actually in the store right now, for those who wish to emulate.

BUT that dress is not in any store or any collection – Angelina’s stylist Jen Rade collaborated with the Versace people in Milan to have the dress made according to AJ’s specifications. That explains why it fits so well! But – it’s the VERY rare occasion that a movie star gets to have a couture dress made for THEM for simply a movie premier – its an honor usually reserved for the Academy Awards. Then again, if Angelina gets nominated, wonder who she’ll feel like wearing? So while it might have taken the house of Versace many hours to make that one-off dress – chances are, the publicity will be worth it to them.
