The Screen Actors Guild Awards will take places just a week after the Golden Globes (January 17th, 2010), on Saturday night January 23, and the nominations came out today. Of course, we know that this is the only show where ONLY actors vote for other actors – so in many ways, as they will always keep reminding us, this is the award that’s packed with acting cred. Mostly, the SAG noms echo the Golden Globe ones, except that SAG has an ensemble cast award, and it does not nominated ten actresses in the lead category (drama and comedy) – only five for lead, five for supporting.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
SANDRA BULLOCK / Leigh Anne Tuohy – “THE BLIND SIDE” (Warner Bros. Pictures)
HELEN MIRREN / Sofya - “THE LAST STATION” (Sony Pictures Classics)
CAREY MULLIGAN / Jenny - “AN EDUCATION” (Sony Pictures Classics)
GABOUREY SIDIBE / Precious – “PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL ‘PUSH’ BY SAPPHIRE” (Lionsgate)
MERYL STREEP / Julia Child - “JULIE & JULIA” (Columbia Pictures)
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
PENÉLOPE CRUZ / Carla - “NINE” (The Weinstein Company)
VERA FARMIGA / Alex Goran - “UP IN THE AIR” (Paramount Pictures)
ANNA KENDRICK / Natalie Keener – “UP IN THE AIR” (Paramount Pictures)

MO’NIQUE / Mary - “PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL ‘PUSH’ BY SAPPHIRE” (Lionsgate)
The ladies being considered the “snubs” here are Abbie Cornish, from “Bright Star” – but she didn’t get a GG nod, either, because the film was not received all that well. Nicole Kidman hasn’t been mentioned from “Nine,” and in Supporting SAG category, Diane Kruger is named for “Inglourious Basterds” – which for fashion followers, is a real thrill, as she is always impeccably dressed!!! She’s got European chic coming out of her perfect pores. Julianne Moore for “A Single Man” did NOT get the SAGS nod. And with very similar groups voting for the Oscars, it looks like the Oscars will shape up more this way. Now ladies like Sandra Bullocks, Carey Mulligan, Penelope Cruz, Anna Kendrick, Vera Farmiga and Meryl Streep – and their stylists and publicists – have REALLY got to get to work on a menu of gowns and great looks for the red carpet BEFORE the holiday season kicks off. That means designers like Armani, Donatella, Karl Lagerfeld, Narciso, Albert Elbaz for Lanvin, and Riccardo Tischi for Givenchy may have very little downtime over the holidays. Or their seamstresses and tailors will!
In the full cast category:
Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
AN EDUCATION (Sony Pictures Classics)
THE HURT LOCKER (Summit Entertainment)
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (The Weinstein Company/Universal Pictures)
NINE (The Weinstein Company)
PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL “PUSH” BY SAPPHIRE (Lionsgate)
This means the ladies from “Nine” will ALL be on hand, and they are all fabulously chic and will turn it out big time.
And “Hurt Locker” glam director Kathryn Bigelow will be on hand as well.
Shoes and jewelry people – get going!!!!
