Amber Valletta in Monroe

We don’t always look forward to the launches of celebrity clothing lines. But when they’re coming from supermodels, it’s another thing entirely. You have to figure famous supermodels know how to dress, they know clothes, they know designers – and they’ve picked up a lot along the way. Kate Moss’s line for Topshop is a big hit, and it’s great value for the money – terrific cheap chic. Now supermodel Amber Valletta is launching a line for the brand Monroe, and it will kick off at a party on Thursday November 19 at Ron Herman Melrose. And who knows more about clothes than Valletta? She began modeling at age 15 and signed a contract two years later to be the face of Calvin Klein’s Eternity. Throughout the 1990s, she modeled for Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Versace and appeared on the covers of Elle, Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar magazines. In the nineties, she and Moss were the first “waif” models – with shaggy haircuts, big open eyes, and tiny features, Valletta wore the grunge looks of the nineties with perfect ease, but when things went glamazon, she was ready for that moment, too. She played herself in Unzipped, co-hosted MTV’s House of Style with her friend and fellow model Shalom Harlow, and since 2000, she has been a more active actress, appearing in “What Lies Beneath,” “Hitch” and “Transporter 2.” We can’t wait to see her full line. She can teach those actresses a thing or two about recession chic.
