Styling is all about being creative and making things happen in a short period of time. I love to do arts and crafts and make things at home. Turning nothing into something is one of my favorite pastimes. Just a note of caution, some of these crafts take some time to perfect, but it’s a learning process and you will learn other useful tricks throughout the process of trial and error. And at the end of it all, you will have something that is all yours- unique and individual.
This weekend I was working on a job, and discovered a fun little trick that worked right away and was a complete success. So I want to share with all of you a fun do it yourself activity, that can turn something old in your closet, into something new and not to mention- this little D.I.Y. is also one of the hottest trends right now!
So the new denim trend is definitely taking a big hint from the 80’s. it seems to be all about tie-dye, bleach or stonewash. There is a 2 month waiting list fot the new jbrand thrasher jean- or the jbrand zombie jean ( pictured below) and ive been getting emails on Nicole Richie’s bleach stained Jet jeans… well if you don’t wanna wait or pony up the cash, here is a simple do it yourself lesson of how to get the look with what you already have at home.
To get the jbrand look:
Items to look for at home:
White denim jeans
White canvas., or cotton pants

Step 1:
Twist up your pants in knots, balls, and/ or wrap rubber bands around certain parts of the pants
Step 2:
prepare a dye bath- if you want the thrasher look I would use rit dye in denim blue/ if you want the zombie look, use rit dye in pearl grey. Apply a ration of 6:1 water to dye. If you want more contrast than the jbrand wash, use more dye.
Step 3:
Dip your jeans! Either let them soak, if you want a more saturated look or dip a certain part for a few seconds, and then remove and rotate to a different area.
Step 4: rinse and hang to dry. If you want darker, or more contrast, soak the pants for longer and add more twists, knots and rubber bands,
To Get the Jet jean Look:
Find some jeans in your closet that don’t have any stretch. Its important to know that dye or bleach does not respond to synthetic material. And in most cases, stretch jeans contain synthetic materials that don’t respond to “do it yourself” projets.
Step 1: take your jeans and lay them out on a flat surface
Step 2: start out slowly and conservatively
Step 3: figure out where you want to splatter your jeans. Do you want an all over look bleach stained look? Or more random placement?
Step 4: put your liquid bleach in a little cup. If you want a more random concentrated look, use a paintbrush and splatter the area. If you want a more all over look, poor a little bleach and then hold your jeans vertically and let the bleach drip and run. Some denim takes longer or needs more bleach so use a test area, to know exactly how your denim will react.
Step 5:
Throw your jeans in the dryer. Let the heat speed up the process. Once you take the jeans out of the dryer, you will have a brand new pair of jeans, that look just like the ones you could have bought for 200.00
Let me know if you tried this, and how the results came out! If you like this tip… let me know and I will be sure to share more little secrets…
