TALK ABOUT OSCAR AND GOLDEN GLOBE FASHION

Dec10

And in fashion circles, that is ALL anyone’s talking about right now, as the Golden Globe nominations are announced live on Thursday morning, December 11, at around 5 am - they will be live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel on most tv morning news  and CNN. In fact, celebrities will be announcing them: Brooke Shields, Elizabeth Banks, Terrence Howard and Rainn Wilson will be reading the long list of nominees for the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will take place January 11, also at the Beverly Hilton.

And while stylists scramble for appropriate gowns for mid January (do they wear resort? spring? pre-fall? couture?), a former Globe and Oscar winner has ideas of her own. Helen Mirren, who won both awards for “The Queen,” has approached Britain’s Marks & Spencer, Britain’s largest retailer, about creating a line of clothes for older women (Mirren, however, was photographed wearing a bikini recently, the pic ran in the tabloids) – specifically, with sleeves. She’s shown Marks & Spencer some sketches, and they are seriously considering creating a line with Mirren. Clearly, from our photo here – taken at a London awards show in October – this a woman who likes sleeves with her black tie finest. And gowns with sleeves aren’t easy to find – in fact, gowns with armholes aren’t even easy to find – so many couture gowns are strapless these days, or one-shouldered.

So add Dame Helen to the list of celebs with clothing lines: Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore, Gwen Stefani – and the list goes on. But none of those lines emphasize the over 45 crowd.
