Holiday shopping parties, replete with discounts, seem to be the big marketing plan that boutiques are going for this holiday season. And it’s a good plan. Get women into a store for champagne and cupcakes and give them a discount, and they tend to purchase – tend to? They can’t help themselves. We just told you about H&M’s purchase party with discount on Tuesday night. Here’s another one: Ports 1961 will host a 40% off holiday shopping party on November 20th at their boutique on Melrose Place from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, with guest hosts stylist Elizabeth Stewart, Lucky West Coast Editor, Marlien Rentmeester, Carlota Espinosa and Andrea Lublin. There will also be a preview of the 2009 resort collection, which will be coming into the store – which will NOT be on sale. But it’s great to see – inspired by the 60s-set tv show “Mad Men,” it’s full of tight sheaths and full waisted dresses in coral, light blue and light green. We can sure see Joan Holloway in that coral shift – and Peggy in the full-skirted number.
